Spring 2024 is set to be a hopping good time as part of the Hakuna Fruitata project! Organisations were encouraged to get creative and make Hot Cross Bunnies with their young participants, sparking joy and deliciousness across Birmingham.
A Bun-tastic Experience
At 100 holiday club venues, over 6,000 children had the chance to become little bakers, making Hot Cross Bunnies from scratch. They mixed ingredients, marvelled as the sticky mixture transformed into a smooth dough, and shaped it into adorable bunnies, decorating them with raisins, apple bits, and other fruits.
Tasty Training
All provider staff were invited to face-to-face “Let’s Talk about Food” training sessions. These workshops shared key theories and evidence-based practices to support the development of food tasting with children. Led by Lucy from Lil’s Parlour, the training included a hands-on lesson on making sourdough-based Hot Cross Bunnies, which staff took home to perfect their skills.
Ready to Lead
Armed with their own bunny-making experience, the adults felt confident and excited to guide groups of children in creating their own Hot Cross Bunnies. As part of Hakuna Fruitata, these delightful treats were made to be taken home and shared with families, spreading the joy of baking and the taste of homemade goodness.
Spring 2024 with Hakuna Fruitata promises to be a season of fun, learning, and delicious treats for everyone involved!
