In 2002, a group of volunteers decided to give back to their community by delivering sport sessions and providing mentoring and educational programmes for young people and in doing so created the Birmingham Youth Sports Academy (BYSA).
BYSA provides sessions for boys and girls age 6-18 and takes pride in working with hundreds of children and young people from all backgrounds and abilities. Supported by an experienced group of dedicated volunteers, who by providing guidance on both physical and emotional health, as well as academic development have established themselves as role models to hundreds of local young people.
“BYSA are doing a great job! This is much needed for the community and the kids have the chance to get out and play sport and it’s brilliant they get food/drink also which helps for a lovely holiday camp” Parent
The Bring It On Brum Programme has supported BYSA to provide additional activities and attract new participants to the already thriving programme. The programme itself now offers football, basketball, cricket, tennis, fitness drills and table tennis.
“Streetgames have made a massive impact for us to deliver activities to a wider audience long May this continue and much needed in the surrounding areas as we don’t have much going on in and around the area.” Anwar, Founder of BYSA
The programme at BYSA provides a safe and enjoyable environment which both children and young people look forward to attending. Being at the heart of the community means the team at BYSA can maintain their excellent reputation within the local area and can build an ongoing coaching relationship with Birmingham’s youth.
“Brilliant and enjoyable from start to finish, everyone’s having a great time – I made new friends and love the food!” Participant
